I know everyone loves it, I can't hide that I absolutely hated it Editing again...turns out I have more to say. I can't let it go.

I....No....I can't, it's just so bad. So bad.

Basically the story is Brooke goes to watch a fight. Remy... A ummm man of few words- does that thing of seeing a girl once and being madly in love with her. This is the extent of his character...he wants Brooke and he fights, that's it.
So she gets hired as his muscle stretcher (???) and then a few days later goes away with Remy and his team. From the off there is sexual tension, if you consider clenching and twitching body parts tension.
At 57% this is all that has happened. I don't even think they had a full on conversation.

When I started reading it, it was making me smile! I didn't hate it (that's a lie... I kind of did....but was not offended by it in any way) but I know this kind of book is hit and miss for me anyway. I was expecting to give it a 2 or 3 star rating....This was when I naively assumed the story progressed beyond "Wahhhh, why won't he have sex with me".

I'm at a loss to be honest? Did I read the same book? I feel like I missed the point. I was perfectly willing to continue with the book until we started with the mental health thing. Just, no book, that's a cheap trick to use. A very sensitive cheap trick.
At that point we leaped from silly bad book, to potentially damaging incredibly insensitive book.

For this to be used to add drama is huuuuugely offensive. To be told that he refuses to take medication because it's basically bad to put chemicals in your body and Brooke says "Sometimes the remedy is worse than the disease" What? Who says? I know a lot of people who have taken antidepressants- including myself (See I can admit that here, because IT'S NO BIG DEAL) and it is NOT an easy decision to take them. So for a book to have an alpha macho man be all "me no need drugs" is just wrong. Big fat effing wrong. If everybody with mental health issues was all 'take me as I am' some of them would have a severely impaired life, it's really irresponsible to say things like this. I can't even see how this can be remotely ok.

He gets tranquilized at one point (Not even kidding), he is having a meltdown and he is tranquilized. Bipolar should not make him behave like the fucking Hulk, okay? No mention of therapy or other medication- we already know he's against this, but it's acceptable to be tranquilized? Who does that?! 'I have bipolar but I don't want to have treatment until I get 'speedy' (what?) and then my 'friends' tranquilize me and get me hookers so I can fuck the mental illness out of me.' Fuck off book.

The clenching every single page....I didn't actually make it through the sex scene but if Remy managed to get inside that overly clenched woman I will be amazed. The woman must have a pelvic floor of steel.
I ended up with a nervous clenching twitch. It was just far too much, how can that go unnoticed? She clenches when he moves, talks, fights, eats, sleeps. Every.God.Damn.Thing. She reminds me of my cats when they are in season putting themselves on display like "pleeeeeease sexxxxx nowwwww"

The scenting....is not logical, nobody scents, they smell. Brooke- Remy did not scent your hair, he smelled it. God damned book. He scents her more times than he talks to her. Also Brooke, your nipples are just that please don't call them breast tips, Oh my god.

Magical writing like this.....

"My genetically induced mating instincts are at full attention, roaring inside me"

"My sex muscles clench every time he hits his opponent"

"My genes and DNA is a natural desire for healthy offspring, and with it comes a desperate desire to mate"

That's painful writing, man.

I don't even know what to say other than what the actual shit is up with this book?!? 

'Genetically induced mating instincts' sounds like something my man would say to make me laugh whilst announcing he is horny. 
Crampy ovaries? Clenching in response to being clenched? SEX MUSCLES?
I don't even know what to say.

Not for me, no bloody way. This book is as far away from my favourites shelf as possible.

I don't want to be a grumpy reviewer but it's happening.

I don't know how to review it. I'm gonna sliiightly rant I think but I don't know. I didn't hate it.

I liked the story, I just felt that it was abandoned about halfway through because Sara got distracted by the pretty Mr Merit.

I'm a bit like, huh? I hate stupid characters. Sara in particular drove me insane.

So Sara finds some journals, and they belong to Rebecca- a woman she has no knowledge about apart from what she has read in the journals.

Sara then goes in search of Rebecca because she is worried about what happened to her........Now. I don't know how I felt about this, she is a teacher and has the summer off. Finds some journals, then goes on some humanitarian mission to find out what happened to her. Random... BUT at this point in the book, I didn't care. I was intrigued enough to continue despite feeling Sara was being stupid.

She discovers she works in an art gallery and gets offered a job (Lucky Sara!!) Naturally owner boss guy is hot and dominant and silently demands she drinks the coffee he made, which she does because y'know.... she wants to please and seek his approval even though she knows she shouldn't because she is a STRONG WOMAN, dammit -_-

THEN comes another hot guy in the form of one of her favourite artists!!!! Who also has an inexplicable interest in the new girl. A guy who is one of them annoying as fuh martyrs being all.....

"Oooh I'm a bad man, you should stay away from me"
Then
"Come away with me for the weekend, I can't be without you"
Then
"I'm a jerk, stay away from me. You deserve better"
Then
"I've never felt this way before, let me stay with you, I miss you"

This is basically Chris throughout the book. Who I liked in the beginning!!! But the plot just basically got left behind whilst Chris and Sara were having all the sex.

And Sara! Well done for resisting so much, you waited like....what...a few days? Before you forgot alllllllll about Rebecca and starting thinking with you slutty brain. Turns out all woman need is a pretty face to forget all their troubles.

She is even toying with the idea that these men had something to do with her disappearance....I'm sorry, what book? So she is SO SCARED for this stranger she MUST go and check up on her but then once she is there, the job offer and pretty men take over everything. It's ok Sara, I'm sure we would all ignore everything else if we were basically controlled by strangers....even though you are aware/annoyed by it, you still do it. Good one mate.
Bleugh, annoying.

The writing wasn't my favourite kind either. "Air crackling between us" and things like that get annoying after a while. I know they want each other. I'm not gonna detail everything that annoyed me because to be honest I could do a chapter by chapter blow of Things That Irritated Bec.

Hmmmm. no, I don't know. I'm mad because I liked the mystery element and wanted more from that. So I will be going straight into book 2 but God Damn there better be a plot

Okay, with this book for the first time ever I noticed stuff that usually makes me hate a book but here I just casually looked the other way. BUT this gives me a stronger love for it because I love it wholeheartedly despite some flaws.

I seriously loved it, which was weird since I had alarm bells constantly going off like "Men don't talk like this" and "Stop with the crap descriptions" and "Oh dear god, PLEASE check your sentences!!". I don't want to say any of this because I reaalllyyyyy loved it, so so so much but I just can't not say it. Anyway....will detail that a bit more later.


Zeke- beat up by his father, Patience sexually abused by hers meet and we follow their surprisingly sweet romance given the subject matter. It's so dark and dramatic but when they are together they behave more like teens albeit dirty slut bag teens BUT it's nice to see them being normal. I loved when they were together it was beautiful.

Patience was very sweet as was Zeke, although the overlap in the chapters was a bit annoying I still enjoyed reading it. I also like how they would say the same things in their heads so we saw how similar they were.

I'm always very vague with plot but believe me when I say A LOT happens.

I think one of the reasons I loved it was there was no insta-love. Thank the heavens, I can’t bear insta-love. They take ages to develop into anything. Full of doubt and self-loathing the pair of them work really hard at trying to do the right thing by each other.

I read this in a day, which I just don't do but I needed to know what happened. It never lulled and I never lost interest, I regret it now! I crave a great book then when I get one I get greedy and gobble it up super quick then mourn the loss of it. When will I learn not to rush through?!

It was a good old fashioned romance, but of the dark twisted variety.
I know some of my friends will absolutely hate this book and others will adore and favourite shelf it.

But...I need to detail some of the bad things now. Don't want to but it kind of needs to be said.

The POV thing, I'm learning I hate 1st person POV... especially male. I nearly gave up in the beginning because I just couldn't read a man coming up with these long winded descriptions for hair and eyes. People don't talk this way! But then I got used to it and I loved Zeke's voice by the end. He's such a dude.

The editor....Dear God... If it was a payed editor should never work again. Some examples....

“master piece” is not what you wanted here, "masterpiece" it’s just one word.

“Of course I am” is not an appropriate response to “Feel like some company?”.

“Never talk to each any one” Doesn’t make sense. Neither does “pulled in next his” there’s quite a few more.

The Ending Jesus effing Christ.....all I can say is wow, that all happened so fast. Throughout the book everything we get is heavily detailed emotions and personal struggles. Then we get to the end and it's like a runaway wrap-up train with a pretty little bow on top. Did Not Like.

Epilogue was laughable too, I need a bit more detail than I was given

I DIDN'T CARE ONE EENY WEENY TINY BIT!!!! LISTEN TO ME....NOT ONE BIT.
IT IS AMAZING

Honestly, couldn't care less. I loved Zeke and Patience so much I just glossed right over all of it... To get all weird on you all now. It made me realise sometimes a good story is enough, great characters can be an amazing experience. It's not necessary to deconstruct a book and seek out flaws. It entertained me, I had a great journey with these people so I'm not taking away any stars for the faults I found because I never got bored it pulled so many emotions out of me and I'm so glad I read it.
Perfect romance read for me.

Okay, I don't know where to start so this is probably gonna be a messy review for now until I work out what I really need to say.

So, first thing I feel has to be said even though it isn't actually anything to do with anything, is the price. This is stupid expensive £14/$22 for kindle. I know this isn't about content, this is going to hugely impact on opinion when recommending it. If this was much cheaper I would be saying it is worth getting.
As it is I am not going to tell anyone to buy it unless they're a millionaire.
If this hadn't been from NetGalley there is no way on earth I would have read this.

Anyway....onto the review!

Mimi is a live-in tutor for the Henderson's. Annie, an orphan (Orphan Annie, where did this amazing idea come from?) is taken in by the Henderson's and things quickly become strange around the estate. Freak accidents, birds dying in strange ways, Margo- the eldest daughter goes missing and Mimi is the only person who believes there is a connection to Annie and the bizarre goings on. And what about the strange girl who some of them keep seeing in the garden? The giggling and whispering? And what is true history of the estate?

It's a slow burner. Slowwww burnerrr. One thing I did like though was how -I don't know the word- contained it felt, contained to the house and the characters. This was their world and they were so cut off, this really come across wonderfully and added so much to the tone of the book. The writing was great apart from being faaaaar to liberal with the comma (which drove me crazy) there wasn't much wrong with it at all.

The thing that tends to happen when you read a mystery though is you break it down into pieces. Making it incredibly predictable.
You know the parts people are going to play; The person who knows the truth, The guilty character who will never be suspected, the innocent victims, The people trying to stop the truth being revealed. I could give more but it would be a spoiler.
So the characters start to feel less like a character and more like an ingredient. And then from that you can predict the path the book is going to take. It turns out I was right about nearly everything hence why I was soooo pissed off by the end of the book.

Mimi is 21 but really if you hadn't been told you would think she was about 40 or 50. It's set in the 70's but I think it could have benefited from being set earlier.
The scary bits did actually scare me, even though they were all basically the same thing and it was some of the more surreal-y creature-y kinda creepy which usually doesn't do it for me at all, but the spookiness was the best part for me.

It bugged me that one of the kids kept seeing and hearing the same creature as Mimi, Mimi didn't want to tell the family because she didn't want to look insane. Yet she also didn't want the child to say anything because the family couldn't handle that on top of Margo going missing?!?! WTF? Why? So Mimi thinks the family is in danger and the creature is responsible......but won't say anything or let anyone else say anything either because......umm.....it's to much to handle? Or what? I don't get it.

Also, out of nowhere the creature is labelled a Nestor. She literally goes "I know what it is, I can name it now." Maybe I don't know much about creatures and stuff but it just seemed to be suddenly decided. It made sense but it just felt wishy-washy.
Gonna do the ending in a plot spoiler because good lord it made me wake my man up and go I TOLD YOU AT 26%!!!! DIDN'T I!!!?!?!?!?!

 Mimi and Annie are sisters. Dun dun duuuuuum. It's so obvious, if I can guess it at 26% that's not a good sign. And the house has an awful history with all kinds of killings. Turns out Annie and Mimi are descendents of this evil woman who owned the house before the Henderson's and Annie is carrying this evil. I just....I don't even know what to say, Annie runs away at the end never to be found again. Until a new family move in 40 years later then she is seen again on the edge of the estate. Mimi knows Annie is going to do the same thing again (Kill the family). She considered burning the house down to stop it all but she couldn't bring herself to do it. I..... Whyyyyy????? Moralistic Mimi is just gonna go work for this new family again and what? try and stop Annie...and fail again. I dunno, I may re-read the ending and see if I get less pissed off by it. 

 

There's other stuff that happens too but that's the general gist. It's revealed slowly and stuff but because you kinda know where it was going it just annoyed me. It wasn't the slow unravel I like. It was like drip feeding confirmation that made my eyes roll like 'yep yep, I knew that.'

Yeahhhhh, fun fun fun. What was I thinking not reading this sooner? Pssssht idiot.

I loved it! Perfect blend of awesome characters, awesome plot and awesome writing. Usually one single thing out of these three sticks out for me but noooo it was an epic coming together of it's parts.

I love reading about flawed people who I want to shake, yet still I love them. Also you know when tonnes of stuff happens but it doesn't feel annoying and for the sake of it? It was fast paced but not making me like Whoa Whoa Whoa chilllll book 

Ellie is a con artist, it's all she's known since her childhood. She has come back to her home town to start over (again) and bumps into an old friend from high school- Camden. Things didn't end well with Camden and when they meet up...he's all...well. Hmph, you will have to read it if you haven't already because- like me- you've had it in your tbr pile for too long.
My plot overview is offensively vague but if you read my reviews you know this now. I just do ramblings.

Ellie- Stupid girl!!! Don't get me wrong I absolutely love her....but damn that girl needs to grow up. AND STOP DOING SHIT. Ellie, you play with fire girl.....

Camden, my beautiful. The high school weirdo (I was this person in my high school! hahaha but of the arty-farty variety) who grew up to be a dangerous tattooed sexy musician nerd man- also know as purrrfect. Must be mentioned though ever so slightly psychotic, very incredibly bitter but a good man.

I like that they were both kind of stuck. I could scream at both of them to move on. It made their connection more poignant I think because they both needed to get over things and move forward with their lives.

I'm just gonna dedicate a sentence to Camden and his amazingness. Mmmmmm I love you Camden, sexy nerds. Nothing better than a sexy nerd.

I keep seeing Team Javier everywhere?!?! Why, I ask WHYYY??? Is this because of On Every Street? Maybe I'll change my mind after I've read that because right now I will fight to the death for Camden.

Anyway, if you want a fast paced romantic thriller kind of thing with shockingly great characters and some damn fine writing this is the one!

Well Wowee.....This had to be a 5* really. I'm a bit dumbfounded right now to be honest. So clever! I was not expecting that. 
Brave bold writing, you can't not respect it.

Yeah...um...wow, where to begin?!?!?! Okay so. I'll start with a basic plot. 
We meet Joe, very likable but in no way a people person, she has a very prominent stutter which makes her shy away from talking to people. 
She has no problem with this though as she's not fond of it anyway. Joe also has a clairvoyance gift I knowit's not the most realistic thing to read, but damnnnn it really was just done so good. Joe foresees a shooting at her university she tries to find out more and attempts to stop it. Off we go on our adventure!!

The book has 8 pov's 8 P.O.V'S! WHAT THE ACTUAL EFF PEOPLE , but for me it really worked. I never would have believed it in a million years but each character was so strong that I did remember each one once it got going.

It's kinda like movies like Crash and 11:14? All different perspectives revolving around one thing and the people being unaware of their connections to each other.
I think I loved the POV business so much because it stopped the book just being another 'heroine saves the day' or 'let's delve into the mind of a psychotic' we get to meet a single mum trying to work out whats best for her kids, a girl dealing with depression feeling like life can't get worse, a teacher on the verge of retirement and others too. All the time this is going on we know what danger they are in whilst they are innocently planning their lives. So it kept this 6th sense creepy story very human. 

Joe- I love characters like her. Characters who you have absolutely nothing in common with but can still empathize with, characters who are so strong they give you no option other than to think about them and try and understand them. We learn so much about Joe; her past with her (awful) parents, the history of her gift and she also goes on a really sweet little personal development too! Oh I'm falling more and more in love with it. 
She doesn't think too highly of herself, she just sees herself as a freak. She thinks she is only acting on her vision things through obligation and to prevent herself from feeling guilty. She's a lovely lovely character. 

I loved the other characters too, especially Michael. 

The writing!! And the structure!! Ooooh I was in heaven at the last 20%
The writing of the POV changes was just complete genius at the end. It was run-on sentences. I've never put quotes in a review before but I'm going to here so you can see what I mean.

This bit of the book was just THE SHIT. The tension was amazing. I don't want to talk too much about the story though and the ins and outs of it all. Even if you read it and hate the story, this part of the book is just going to demand that you respect it and the skill taken to craft such a thing.

Another thing about the writing was it was that style of writing that I absolutely love but so often find it's been done wrong so it drives me crazy. Do you know what I mean? Like internal voices playing devil's advocate in italics, repeating phrases to build tension and that kind of thing. It was done so well I just loved it. 


If you're a fan of mystery/thrillers, want something compleeeeetely different, strong characters and a busy book that demands attention. I really recommend this one. It's so clever I have HUGE respect for this book.

Although...I must say....I have a feeling it may well be a love it or hate it kind of book. So don't shout at me if you don't like it!!

This was different to what I thought it would be, not as brutal or sex based as I expected but more of a character exploration. Expect a fantastic psychological journey not hard-core erotica.

Faith witnesses a murder, some kind of mob hit. The murderer (Angelo) is about to kill Faith because of what she has witnessed when he notices she could have another use for his brother. 
Leo has always wanted a slave but isn't willing to do it, since Angelo has given him the option 'take her or she dies' Leo decides he has not choice but to take her with him.


Leo still doesn't have it in him to force Faith into being a slave- he wants a submissive masochist but because she isn't he attempts to let her simply live in the house with him. This works for a while but Faith is sort of in a state of mourning because she will never have a life outside of the house and Leo, she then decides to try and make some sort of relationship with Leo.

Watching Leo struggle with his self-control was refreshing. I don't think I have come across a man like him. A man who has his ultimate desire handed to him on a plate not take full advantage of it because he doesn't want to feel like a monster.

It was great to see them both struggle, Leo struggling with his shame of his desires and Faith struggling with her shame for considering them.

Faith probably looks weak but I don't think she is, she has accepted what has happened and what started out as a revulsion and fear started to change once she realized her life would be empty. She didn't really have much choice other than to try and make her life with Leo some form of relationship and she made the decision that if Leo needed the kink and submission- then this is what she has to do so for her to have someone in her life.

Leo- although not forcing Faith to do anything was who he was and made no attempts to change really. He treated her very well but he was not going to compromise his desires. Such a guy....take it or leave it kind of attitude. He was lovely though!

I loved the relationship between the two brothers, and the big Italian family was really fun to read. All of them! Mafia mum, arrogant brother and all the other crazies, it was just fun and interesting.

I loved the little details that let us learn about Leo, like his dog! This big mafia kinky guy loves his doggy.... awwwww. BUT he's not above murdering if you mess with his family! 


If you like non-con/dub-con BDSM reads or like watching characters battling inner turmoil, this is a great read

This is a dark and twisted book, very creative and unique as well. 

I don't want to give away too much of the plot though because I think this is a great book to go in knowing nothing about but I'll do a basic version without specifics.....

Deanna (also known as Jess) had a big trauma which gave her the desire to kill, she spends a lot of her time fantasizing about murder and craves an opportunity. She becomes disturbed by a particular client and decides to find out more about him and of course we have little Annie.

Deanna/Jess has locked herself away from the world. She fears she is a danger to society due to her obsession with wanting to kill people. 
She earns a living as a sex-cam girl.....y'know the internet webcam sex stuff and she is goooood 

I loved this aspect it was incredibly clever because throughout her sex-cam times we learn so much about her and what could be a character who you can't bear because she is obsessed with the idea of murdering- and don't misunderstand me- the girl wants to make people suffer is actually a character who appears more odd and strange than evil. 
We come across a lot of fetishes and her reactions to each leaves a great impression of who she is. So we find out what makes her feel guilty, what worries her, what she likes and what scares her. So this wannabe murderer is actually disgusted by certain things and takes matters into her own hands when she thinks people are at risk. See? She's not so bad.
I thought it was a genius way to explore her character.

I think the best way to treat the whole Annie situation is to see it as a character development for Deanna, it's not the driving force behind the book so much as a great way to progress her journey. Otherwise it seems to move to quickly to be such a big part of the plot but once I treated it as a thing for Deanna, it was great.

I loved loved loved her character, very emotionally cold and clinical in that extremely graphic and vulgar but unaffected way that makes a character fascinating. 

I loved the fact the chapters were so short and snappy, you won't get bored and nothing drags at all. IT'S AWESOME, it was perfect for what it was. A fast paced suspenseful read which moves 100 million miles an hour.

The multiple POV's was good too, it was great seeing things from another characters perspective. I loooooved the writing. This was one of those books for me that I was destined to love, I can take my pick whether it was the plot or characters that made me love it. Everything was brilliant for me.

It was an awesome read, if you are a fan of fast paced mystery and suspense and want sexy sexiness too this one is great! I want more books like this!!!!

Not what I expected at all!!

I expected your average non-con "I've been kidnapped but I like it!!" And that's about it. But there was soooooo much more to it. In fact it's not like that at all, I loved the writing style too, that poetic beautiful style. It was completely different to what I thought, the blurb made me think it would be a good but y'know expected kidnapping read. NOOOOO so good!!!!

Evie is a very sheltered naive girl who after being abused as a child is over-protected by her mother. Her mother feels guilty as the abuser was a boyfriend of hers, so this helps explain her over-bearing behaviour. She taught Evie that all men were monsters and something bad will happen to her is she ever leaves but she eventually does leave and her mothers fears quickly become true, repeatedly actually.

Hunter- huh, I like him! I get him too, I hugely disagree with him but I get the bitterness inside him. Hunter has a story but I won't spoil it for you.

One thing I loved about this book is it's probably the first time I've ever believed someone would react this way. Evie has no prior knowledge of men and relationships. So I suppose this eagerness to be wanted was believable. If you accept things will move quickly purely because it's not a long book, it is paced brilliantly. 

I LOVED THAT SHE KEPT TRYING TO ESCAPE!!! Oh my god, finally! Someone who feels torn because she doesn't hate the guy but is aware enough to know it's purely self-preservation to accept and find the small graces and realize are not actually a good enough thing to stay with him hoping to find love. 

She also doesn't love pain! I loved that too! How annoying is that when you read a book and the woman goes ooooooh this is what was missing from my life! A bossy man who ties me up! Now I'm complete!! Hunter isn't about pain or dominance either which was again refreshing. Now we have a complex guy who has actual reasons for the things he does and has real feelings that make sense. No BDSM here people just pure psychological disturbances.

This book really truly surprised me in that it was all a mind melt, I loved these characters. So much more psychological than expected.

This is about Evie and Hunter. Both broken but fixing each other, I can't believe I'm finding it cute but I am. Hunter is awful in the beginning but he does grow and become a wonderful man. To my twisted brain anyway, haha. 

I would say this was dark and disturbing.....and it kind of was but for me, when it counts, it's a seriously sweet emotional book. I really truly wasn't expecting a book like this. Maybe other people will find it darker than me I may just be the odd one out. 

If you're in the mood for a dark romance that has surprising amounts of depth that is written very well, try this one!!!
